OFFICIAL LABOUR MARKET DATA

What do people earn in India?

Explore selected average earnings figures reported in India's Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) Annual Report 2025. These are national averages across broad employment categories—not salary promises, job-role pay scales or city-specific estimates.

How to read these figures: The figures below are average earnings reported for 2025. An average is not a median: it does not mean half of workers earn more and half earn less. Individual earnings vary by occupation, location, experience, hours, sector and employment arrangement.

It also reports self-employment earnings of ₹17,914 for male workers and ₹6,374 for female workers.

These figures are reproduced as published in the official summary. SalarySach does not calculate a city or occupation percentile from these national averages. The PLFS survey design changed from January 2025, so the report cautions that 2025 annual estimates may not be strictly comparable with earlier PLFS estimates.
